How to Deal with Conjunctivitis

The eye is the reflection or window of your soul, or so many old wives would say. This is also one of the most sensitive parts in your body. Without your sense of sight, doing your activities can be complicated. Proper care and maintenance must be done regularly.

Known to many are some of the eye problems that are presented by ophthalmologists. A particular example is conjunctivitis. This is popularly known as pink eye. It refers to the swelling of conjunctiva which is a clear membrane covering the white potion of the eyes and lining the inner surface of the eyelid.

At first, conjunctivitis cannot be regarded as a major problem to vision. However, if you leave this untreated for quite a long time it can result to blindness. Some of the common causes of conjunctivitis are infectious, irritant and allergic substances.

Conjunctivitis usually appears to children suffering from hay fever. Even newborn babies are also prone to the disease. Each type of conjunctivitis has also peculiar symptoms. This can vary from every child to adult individuals. Symptoms include eye pain and redness of the eye. This is the reason why it is termed as pink eye. Itchiness and swelling are also common manifestations.

Conjunctivitis is preventive if you will teach your children to practice neatness. They should learn to wash their hands after playing and remind them of not sharing tissues and eye drops to their friends.

To treat conjunctivitis, eye drops and other over the counter medications can help. Never apply anything to your eyes unless it is prescribed by a doctor to avoid further complications.
